  • Casement Windows

Cambridge Classics can replace or refurbish your existing casement windows. All of our windows are made from scratch and can be designed or like for like.

A casement is a window that is attached to its frame by one or more hinges at the side. They are used singly or in pairs within a common frame, in which case they are hinged on the outside. Casement windows are often held open using a casement stay.

We offer espagnolette locking for all of our casement windows. They all contain the most energy efficient glass on the market which is Planitherm.

Your windows will be fitted and interior/exterior decorated on site.

  • Sash Windows

Cambridge Classics can replace or refurbish your existing sash windows.

All of our windows are made from scratch and can be designed or like for like.

A sash window or hung sash window is made of one or more movable panels, or “sashes” ] that form a frame to hold panes of glass, which are often separated from other panes (or “lights”) by glazing bars,

We can make box sash windows for you that operate using weights & cords or spring balances.

They all contain the most energy efficient glass on the market which is Planitherm.

Your windows will be fitted and interior/exterior decorated on site.

  • Stained Glass Windows

We have a number of ways that we can help you save your original stained glass features within your home and lovingly restore them,or if you have always thought about having a stained glass feature we can help you create a brand new design.

    Lead Lights:

Whilst traditional lead light windows should last for decades, they will eventually show signs of age. Apart from glass cracking, usually as a result of impact, the cement deteriorates over time and falls out at which point the window loses rigidity and starts to bow. When bowing occurs the soldered joints tend to crack and the lead then deteriorates.

It is often possible to replace broken or cracked glass pieces in-situ, but if the panel has bowed then the best option is to remove it, lay it flat on a bench and carry out the necessary restoration.

Every window we restore has its border lead replaced, is cleaned and thoroughly re-cemented as a matter of course, even if damage is restricted to a small area of the window.

Broken glass is replaced with the closest available match, often taken from our stock of salvaged period glass. If an exact match is not available, then we ‘balance’ our repairs to ensure that symmetry is retained in the design. Once restored, your window will be returned to its original splendour and should last for decades to come.

    Stained Glass:

Restoration of a stained glass window differs from that of a lead light, as the focus tends to be on conserving as much of the original glass as possible, instead of refurbishing it to look as new. Small cracks in painted pieces are usually bonded back together, but original pieces damaged beyond repair will need to be replaced with new painted glass.

    Encapsulation:

Encapsulating a lead light window is the process of suspending it between two panes of glass and sealing it to form a double glazed unit.

Whether you are considering restoring your existing decorative glass or having a new design produced, an encapsulated lead light is superior in quality and appearance to modern day plastic ‘stick on’ film reproductions.

Units are produced in thicknesses of 19mm, 24mm and 28mm. They can be made with toughened and/or thermally efficient glass, increasing security and insulation whilst adding a long lasting decorative feature to your home.

    Lamination:

Obscured glass is used in the production of double glazed units where privacy is required, for example front entrances or bathroom windows. Mass produced 4mm obscured glass patterns have hardly changed since the 1960’s.  The range is very limited and hardly inspiring if compared to the vast array of textures that 3mm decorative ‘art glass’ offers.

Unfortunately, single panes of handmade glass are too fragile and unsafe for use in double glazed units, unless they are laminated to a second pane of glass. We produce ‘art glass’ double glazed units that conform to BS EN 1279.

  • Norfolk Sliders

Cambridge Classics can refurb or replace your existing Norfolk Slider.

A Norfolk Slider is a Horizontal Slider window that open with the sash sliding left or right.

Since they open and close without protruding, horizontal sliders are an excellent choice for rooms facing walkways, porches or patios.

Horizontal sliders are a favorite for contemporary style homes and are also popular for satisfying bedroom egress requirements.

In a single slider, one sash slides to open. In a double slider, both sashes open. Double sliders are great for providing air circulation, particularly if there is only one window in the room.

All of our windows once fitted will be interior/exterior decorating.

  • Window Repair Care

    Sash Window Rot and Repair:

If your sash windows, frames or sills are suffering from rot we can offer varying techniques to solve these problems. If the extent of the rot is minor we would cut back any rotten timber, treat and then apply a durable, hard wearing two part epoxy resin repair care treatment.Where necessary we will splice in timbers using traditional carpentry techniques.

    Sash Window Draft Proofing:

Our draft proofing system is a very effective and popular service. By using a brush system, draughts are virtually eliminated whilst the beauty and aesthetics of the sash window remain the same. English Heritage released findings that … Air infiltration can be reduced by as much as 86% by adding draught proofing .. This results in vast improvements for the energy efficiency of the window. When choosing our draught proof system, sash cords are renewed and windows are balanced to ensure perfectly weighted windows.

    Sash Window Slimline Glazing:

We can create a new inner sash including slim line glazing which we will then fit it into your existing window frame. After this process your windows will be interior/exterior decorated.

    Cord Renewal:

A common problem with sash windows is that cords often break. We can replace the cord with a polyester core to add extra strength. This service comes as standard when choosing to draught proof and over hauling your windows.

How it starts...

Once your order has been placed and one of our Carpenter’s has visited your home to take the measurements for your windows or doors they are taken to one of our local joiners. Our windows are made using Planitherm Energy efficient glass which reflects heat from radiators and fires back into your room, whilst at the same time, letting in heat from the sun. The space between the glass is filled with Argon gas that has 67% thermal conductivity of air, thereby saving heat loss through glass.
